Herdsmen Killings : Finally Army launches Exercise Ayem Akpatuma in Benue and Taraba,

The Nigerian Army has announced launch of Exercise Ayem Akpatuma targeted at tackling cases of kidnappings, and herdsmen/farmers’ clashes among others in Benue and Taraba states.
The operations which will last for 44 days according to the Army, will also cover other states as Nasarawa, Kaduna, Kogi and Niger.
The development is coming after many Nigerians have been urging President Muhammadu Buhari to send in the military to the trouble states of Benue, Taraba and others, where suspected Fulani herdsmen have been killing innocent Nigerians since beginning of this year.
Announcing the exercise on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, in Abuja on Wednesday, the Chief of Training and Operations, Major Gen David Ahmadu, explained that the exercise would run from February 15, to March 31, 2018.
Exercise Ayem Akpatuma, which is said to be the Tiv language for Cat race, will involve raids, cordon and search operations, road blocks, show of force and checkpoints, according to the army.

The Army further said that the troops will carry out special operations in the affected states in conjunction with other sister security agencies from the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
