Chelsea: Alvaro Morata Angry after Barcelona Clash, Regrets Real Madrid Exit

Alvaro Morata was reportedly fuming after Antonio Conte benched him for Chelsea’s Champions League showdown with Barcelona.

Morata returned from a back injury and suspension when the Blues faced West Brom in the Premier League last Monday.

And he was a substitute again last weekend as Chelsea played host to Championship outfit Hull in the FA Cup.

Morata was expected to be restored to Conte’s starting XI when Barcelona visited Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

However, the Spaniard had to settle for a place on the bench and the Chelsea gaffer left it until the 82nd minute to bring him on.

Eden Hazard started the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie up front in Morata’s place.

And the latest reports from Spain suggest Morata was seriously unimpressed by Conte’s decision.

According to Mi Otra Liga, Morata was unhappy while warming up during the game.

And he is said to have been 'really angry' post-match, so much so that he dodged interviews.

Morata was apparently desperate to feature more prominently against Barcelona due to his Real Madrid connections.

And Mi Otra Liga claim he is beginning to regret swapping La Liga for the Premier League last summer.

Morata supposedly believes he would have thrived at Real this season, where his former team-mates have failed to shine.

And the fact he was benched against Barcelona compounded the impact of Chelsea signing a rival striker in Olivier Giroud last month.

Morata’s alleged unhappiness is deepened by speculation Conte could leave west London at the end of the season.

The Chelsea gaffer specifically asked Roman Abramovich to sign the 25-year-old last summer.

And his potential replacement, Luis Enrique, is thought to be eyeing up a raid for Barcelona star Luis Suarez, who’d push Morata down the pecking order.
